Had my computer wiped at a supposedly reputable computer place, they installed
Win Word which has now disappeared from my computer. Also, the microsoft
Windows which I think is genuine, has a CD but does not Validate. The seller
is now not to be found. Am I just stuck???

Look for WinWord.EXE on the machine to see if Word is installed.

Does the CD look like an official MS WinXP CD?

If you brought them a computer to 'wipe' you must have had an operating
system and software - at least at one point. Where is your original media?
What did you pay for when you bought the computer?
