Computer stutter

I've recently noticed my computer "stutters" on certain
programs. For example, in Word 2000 I type and there is
a delay before the words appear on the screen. In a
game, the images stutter every few seconds. It's like
the computer becomes distracted and isn't paying
attention. Internet browsers seem fine. Typing this
message is totally normal. I've tried restarting a few
times with no improvements. Any suggestions?

If FIND FAST in Control Panel is active, try disabling it. Delete the
items, then click INDEX|Close & Stop.

No luck with the Find Fast suggestion. There were no
items listed and after following the steps the problem is
still there. My wife told me she had the same problem a
few days ago and fixed it with a restart. I wonder why
that doesn't work now.

Any other thoughts?

Double check your settings.
