Still trouble with stutter

I am having recent trouble with my
computer "stuttering." For example, when I type quickly
in Word 2000 the computer takes a second to display the
text. Games stutter every few seconds during play.
Strangely, typing text in web browsers is normal and
unaffected. Someone suggested making changes to Fast
Find. That made no difference. I have a P4 2.25 Ghz,
512 RAM.

Any suggestions please?

A friend of mine has a Sony Viao with xp loaded and His
does something similar to what you describe, a lag type
thing ...seems like he's getting fewer screens per second
or something. The mouse moves for a second, stops, moves,
stops, etc. We deemed it the "gay thing" but i think i
like "stuttering" better. If it is this, he called Sony
and they told him that even though it has done this since
he bought the computer, they couldn't honor the warranty
because he had installed a new video card (so don't tell
em if you did, just put the original back in if you have
to ship it). Other than that, I have no idea how to stop
it.
Also, if you haven't already (I assume everyone does
this) Try defragmenting your harddrive, sometimes there
is a cpu lag when you haven't done that for a while (the
computer just takes forever to find all the fragments of
programs you are running)...I have just exhausted my
knowledge of this problem :)

SAM, just a guess, where do you have the appearance and
performance settings? Try backing off to presets and see
if it helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. However, I'm still stuck.
Everything worked great as recently as Friday. My
performance settings have not changed. I altered them
just now to see if there was any improvement. There was
not.

The mouse does not freeze. The delay only happens when I
type quickly in MS Word. The screen stutters occur only
in games. Typing this message quickly showed no problems.

Any other thoughts?
