Control panel. phone and modem options, Modems, Power
Management Options "Allow this device to bring the
computer out of Standby" and it still start up whenever
the phone rings ??? Help

This sort of thing "start on ring" is controlled by the comptuer's BIOS
settings, and has really nothing to do with Windows. The computer
detects the phone is ringing (via the modem) and says "time to wake up"
and then does.

To fix: When the machine boots, watch carefully the startup screens. At
an early point it will give you instructions for what key to press to
get into the BIOS Settings (ESC, F8 or F2 or something). Do that. Then
navigate through the menus and find the setting which controls this. It
should be pretty obvious.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Thanks RMS
I did that in the Bios and it still starts. I vaguely
recall from somewhere that some modems are configured to
perform this start up function ???????
