my computer seems to stall during the startup of windows, most commonly will
stall just before my log on screen has a chance to appear. I have recently
installed new memory in my computer, however i receive no error messages
during start up - it just freezes. The times i have been able to get into
windows was when i have completely shut off the power to my computer by
turning off my power bar and then restarting it that way, and then even that
way it sometimes freezes, but by chance sometimes i get through to the long
on screen. Its a very strange problem because sometimes i get through, and
sometimes i dont. I have did a registry clean up on my computer, ran norton
utilities and every sory of virus program i can think of... the only one i
cannot run is scandisk as my computer tells me something else is running and
wants to run it on startup, sure... i run it on startup then but my computer
freezes so i have never have a chance to completely run it through. Any
suggestions on how i prevent my computer from freezing on startup?

It's probably your ram. It's either overheating (try blowing a fan on it, or
ram coolers) or the socket that you put the ram in has a problem (dusty,
cracket traces, etc) you may want to try blowing out your slot with
pressurized air, inserting the ram a few times, or try a different slot if it
doesn't work.. if that doesn't help take the memory back..
I've seen this error when overclocking my cpu also so it's probably a heat
issue..
