Windows xp reinstallion problems

hi.. my computer used to boot and then stall at the initial windows xp
screen (after loading).. i tried booting it from an xp cd and when it
reaches the installation screen it freezes when 29 minutes remain (its
at the installing windows phase and says performing configuration)...
ive tried restarting and redoing it but it always stalls at this
point... what can i do to fix my computer without losing all my data?

Youre going backwards here,if a "reinstall" of xp is in order,the hd gets
formatted & all data lost,if you want to "repair" xp,the data is saved,but
all
updates lost..At xp cd boot menu,do you select "repair this copy" of xp,if no
all is probably wiped out,either way,you might first tap the F8 key on
starting
pc,select safe mode,enter xp as administrator,backup youre files...Also,at
some
point set youre BIOS to boot to xp cd.
