My home machine is getting slower by the day. Memory use
seems to be the culprit.

Is there an easy way to view and turn off all non-
essential programs/processes that are not needed at each
start-up?

I would rather open applications when I need them, rather
than at each start-up.

Any help is appreciated, thanks
John

Start - Programs - Startup

You may want to re-install some programs, and during the install, turn off
all automated features (tray icons, auto starts, etc.) You'll find some of
these options when you select "Custom Install".

The more 'friendly' apps often have a 'options' entry to disable auto start.
You can also obtain msconfig.exe an MS app missing frm Win2K - though may be
included in SP4 - in which you can disable startup apps.
There are also a number of shareware startup apps available

Google for "CodeStuff Starter" or various "startup manager"s.
