insufficent paging files. not sure what to do about it i have also noticed on
windows task manager that the cpu usage is alot of the time above 80% how do
reduce the strain on the computer. i would also like to kniow if there is a
way to reduce the amount of processes the computer is carring out i aint got
a clue what they are or do dont want to mess things up. so in general how do
i speed up a 256MB computer without stuffing it up, help appreciated

The 256 MB is the amount of RAM (memory) you have, not the size of the
hard drive.

More than likely, you will need to add more RAM in order to "reduce the
strain."

In the mean time, this site covers virtually every cause of a PC slowing
down:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/slowcom.htm

Pay close attention to:
Steps 1 through 5: removing malware
Step 13: Start-up processes

Another good site wrt processes:
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

Regarding upgrading your memory, see:
http://www.crucial.com

Finally, see this excellent site to learn more about the page file
(virtual memory):
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm

set your pagefile/virtual ram to
a custom size of min 2 and max 750.

go to control panel, system, advance,
performance, advance, change...

Good one Gordon, our man here might not be the most experienced member of the

Umm he's NOT an "inexperienced" member of the group - he's been doing this
for YEARS.
