Bogged down computer?

I created a slideshow presentation for my father in law and scanned in over
300 pictures. I think this has slowed down my computer. I've defraged,
tried to delete the pictures; anything I could think of to try and speed it
up and nothing has seemed to work. I was given the computer so if I wipe out
the hard drive I will not have the same applications that it came with, so
that's not an option. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have an HP
Pavilion 521c, 1.47 GHz processor, 256mb Ram. I know, not the latest and
greatest, but it serves its purpose, (when its not slow.). Thanks.

Three hundred pictures! - Regarding "...> tried to delete the pictures;
..." - did you delete them or not? What size is the hard drive - when a
drive gets within 70 to 80% of it's capacity things slow down.
