My computer will all of a sudden shut down. I can't seem
to get a handle on this. It will shut down while it is
starting up, it will shut down while I use media player,
it will shut down at different points in games etc. I
get an error report sometimes but not always. Any hints,
ideas?

Hi,

Control Panel/System/Startup and recovery settings, disable the line to
automatically restart on system failure. Next time it happens, you should
get a blue screen or "stop" error. Please post back with the text of the
error.

When my system did this I had a vicious virus that
wouldn't let me do anything. The more often it shut down
the more infected my computer became. Have you run an
independant virus scan?? By independant I mean, not
installed no your computer since it could also be
infected. I seriously recommend AVG. It may be free but
so far it has managed to protect my computer better than
Panda, Norton, McAfee combined!! Try online scans from
either of those companies though even if you have then
installed. I had to erradicate the virus in safe mode,
cause whenever the antivirus softwares would get anywhere
near the infected files, my computer would shut down.
This is where I recommend running your scan from. Always
rememeber if you do have a virus file and you delete it
(If it cannot be healed), it will be in your recycler
files. If it is not a virus, and you have run the scans
just in case (I recommend you do), then you got
me.....have you tried reinstalling windows media player
from the microsoft website? Sounds to me like you may
have the same type of virus that I had just recently and
the only way I could finally get rid of the damage it
cause was to reinstall windows XP as an
upgrade......though I recommend you have all your driver
disks or you'll have to find them on the net!! I had
to :( Took the better part of a day to do, but my
system is running better than ever!! GOOD LUCK!!
