COmputer runs slow

Ever since I got wireless internet on my computer, it has been running very
slowly. I have tried uninstalling unnecessary programs and clearing the
temporary internet files folder, but it has not seemed to help. Also, my
internet explorer browser frequently closes out with the message "Internet
Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close".
A couple of times, the message about virtual memory has popped up on my
screen, saying that it is increasing the size. I don't know much about
virtual memory, so I have not tried increasing or decreasing it. Can anyone
give me any recommendations as to what I can do to get my computer back up to
speed?

It is my understanding that IE7 has a serious memory leak. If you are using
IE7 that could explain the problem. Try installing Firefox and see if that
stops happening.

I know I had a similar problem on a new dual core machine. As soon as I
stopped using IE7, the machine starting zooming at the speed it ran when I
purchased it and my browser pages didn't take 20 minutes to open!

Ironically, i was just downloading IE7 because i thought that maybe it was my
old version of IE that was causing the problem. So you think that I should
get firefox instead?
Any recommendations for the system being slow?
