computer restarts

Hello all i'm having a great problem with my computer.Whenever i try to run a
virus scan or got to microsoft windows update and try to run the updates it
restarts my computer.It never gives a reason just restarts. Please help

Hi tina,

Turn off Automatically Restart.

Click Start > Right-click My Computer and click Properties. Click
Advanced. Click Settings under Startup and Recovery. Uncheck Automatically
Restart and click OK Click OK.

Report back the exact information on the Windows Blue Stop Screen.

You are presumably blue-screening, and you are set to reboot whenever that
happens. Right-click My Computer, and choose Properties. On the Advanced
tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery. Under System failure,
uncheck the box "Automatically restart.

Now when the problem occurs again, instead of restarting, you will get the
blue screen with diagnostic information. Post back with those details for
more help.

but it doesn't really tell you how to proceed. I don't know much about this
myself, but I hope that someone else here can provide more information and
guidance.
