computer restarts automatically

My computer restarts with no apparent reason. I was surfing the net or
just editing a video using Pinnacle Studio and suddenly, my computer
will restart. And when it did, it will display an error asking me to
start in Safe Mode (normal safe mode, with networking and with command
prompt), Last Known Good Config and Start Windows Normally. Only "Safe
Mode" can get me through Windows. But when I choose the other 4 option,
it just return to that error screen and sometimes the Windows logo will
appear in less than a second and restarts (again). Also, when the PC
blacks out, the monitor will just turn off but the NUM Lock indicator
on my keyboard is still on. I need to press Reset in order to make it
boot.

What puzzles me is the fact that when I unplug the cord for about 10 -
30 minutes, and then I'll open the system, it boots normally. But
sometimes, it goes to that error screen again, and when I choose Last
Known Config or Start Normally, it will boot.

I also noticed that (it usually happens to me) when I open the computer
using the Power button, it will not respond. But the lights on the CPU
are on but the monitor isn't. I need to press the Reset button to boot
it up. It's like a 2 way process. A power button + reset button = boot.

Pls help...I don't think it's a virus...

Also, I installed SpeedFan and I saw that only Fan03 hav figures. Fan01
and Fan02 both have 0 RPM. Does that mean my fans are not working?

Hi,

Probably it's overheating. The fan monitor would only be accurate if the
fans are connected to the motherboard where their speed can be monitored. If
connected directly to the power, then it's easy enough to visually verify
that they are working. Things you can do:

1) Open the case and make sure all fans are operating, especially the cpu
fan. While you're in there, get a can of compressed air and blow out the
dust bunnies.

2) Make sure the drive tower is well ventilated and not stuck in some
department store computer desk pc cabinet with only a little vent hole in
the back.

3) Visit a local pc shop and have them add an intake or exhaust fan. This is
not something you should do on your own unless you are familiar with the air
circulation pattern inside your machine. Adding a fan can be
counterproductive if not done correctly.

But what about the reset button problem?
