computer randomly restarts

My computer restarts with no apparent reason. I was surfing the net or
just editing a video using Pinnacle Studio and suddenly, my computer
will restart. And when it did, it will display an error asking me to
start in Safe Mode (normal safe mode, with networking and with command
prompt), Last Known Good Config and Start Windows Normally. Only "Safe
Mode" can get me through Windows. But when I choose the other 4 option,
it just return to that error screen and sometimes the Windows logo will

appear in less than a second and restarts (again). Also, when the PC
blacks out, the monitor will just turn off but the NUM Lock indicator
on my keyboard is still on. I need to press Reset in order to make it
boot.


What puzzles me is the fact that when I unplug the cord for about 10 -
30 minutes, and then I'll open the system, it boots normally. But
sometimes, it goes to that error screen again, and when I choose Last
Known Config or Start Normally, it will boot.


I also noticed that (it usually happens to me) when I open the computer
using the Power button, it will not respond. But the lights on the CPU
are on but the monitor isn't. I need to press the Reset button to boot
it up. It's like a 2 way process. A power button + reset button = boot.



Pls help...I don't think it's a virus...


Also, I installed SpeedFan and I saw that only Fan03 hav figures. Fan01
and Fan02 both have 0 RPM. Does that mean my fans are not working?

Try R.clicking my computer,properties,advanced,recovery,settings,uncheck
the box,restart computer.You might also,chk event viewer for details when
the error occurs.

Have you run a virus scan and checked for adware etc?

This could be the result of a low level hardware issue such as the cpu.
Especially if you let it sit for a while to let cool down.

The first part has been explained, uncheck automatically restart in my
computer>properties>advanced>startup/recovery settings.
The second part sounds like the BIOS are not initializing the Video card,
thus no light on the monitor.
I've seen several causes, from a loose video card, loose RAM chip, loose
cable, etc. to a defective motherboard. Check all that as well as the CPU
fan.
I had to replace a MB last month in my Athlon 1700+ for a similar issue, it
got so it would boot one out of 5 tries, then freeze within a few minutes.
After a new MB and a repair install; all seems well.
If it persists or worsens, a new MB may be in order.
You may only have 1 fan OR the other fan(s) do not have a speed sensor OR
it/they may be defective.

spywares. I also removed dusts on the CPU too. I noticed slight
improvements but it restarted once.

I think it's the temperature. Temperature reaches about 38' here in our
country. What do you think?

Could it be the reset and power button problems I mentioned earlier?

I had a problem similar to this and it turned out that it was my power
supply. The voltage and temp was all over the place. Once it powered down
the lights on the mother board were still on, but I had to actually unplug it
and let it sit for a few minutes or it would do it again. After replacing
the power supply everything ran fine. Hope this helps.

You have received a lot of good advice, but if you are operating the
computer in a very warm environment, then definitely, overheating can be
considered a possible problem.
Download this program to check your computer's operating tempertaure. The
CPU temperature should not go over 45 C. It is best if it runs a lot cooler
than that.

You can take your computer to a shop to be modified for better cooling.
What I do on hot days is open the side of the computer and aim a small desk
fan at the main circuit board. This solved my problem when the CPU got so
hot its alarm went off.

Hope the suggestion above is right...

I just went crazy when my monitor will suddenly turn off but the lights
in the CPU are on...and the NUM lock light in the keyboard hangs. I'll
try to fix the power supply...Thanks...
