intermittent problem, that computer restarts itself when attempting to boot
up. gets as far as the window xp logo. then gets a blue screen (with writing
on but restarts before you can read any of it) restarts to screen allowing
you to start under safe mode, last known good config etc. will not boot up
using the last known config or by starting windows normally. but can start in
safe mode. will allow me to do a system restore which will then allow me to
boot up as normal. i can then usual start computer without any problems all
day.

the following day (normally) same problem is back

any help greatly appreciated

When the options for Safe Mode appear after the computer restart, select
"disable automatic restart". Or when you are in Safe Mode, go to the Control
Panel and select System Properties. Within System Properties, select the
"Advance Tab", click the Start-up and Recovery settings button and disable
"Automatically Restart"

Now when the next time your computer get the BoSD, write the FULL stop code
and post back.

You could enter the Event Viewer and see if the Stop Code is listed there
while in Safe Mode. You will find the Event Viewer here:

Control Panel (Classic View) > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer. Look in
the System Event Logs for clues.

Hi there
I'm having similar probs ( XP starts up but then PC turns off before login
screen) after trying to set up a home network (install a Netcom wireless
router plugged into an existing DLink ADSL modem) there appears to be a
conflict/error is some of the drivers in boot or startup. We've done
everything thats been suggested & more eg

Can get to & run system restore via recovery console (XP CD) but cannot
restore to previous version (Same problem occurs). Have run Chkdisk/p & /r a
number of times & run fixboot. Have tried to Repair- no go, flushed BIOS &
reinstalled updated network drivers.

Can f8 & access Safe Mode but error messages in event log are no help. Have
reconfigured modem (from Network cable to USB connection) & Internet
connection/modem is working fine via another PC.

The exact same problem has now occurred on another PC after trying to
install an internal Netcom PCI modem & USB card & plugging in the ADSL modem.
I had internet access after installing USB card but blank screen /restart
issue after installing modem.

We're convinced its something to do with Network/modem drivers conflict or
some corruption to the Registry/Startup directory- I'm a bit reluctant to
play with registry

Any help much appreciated

THks

If you experiencing the same problems when installing the Netcom PCI modem
on different computer the I would say there is a problem with the modem and
you should contact Netcom for support.
