Computer Name on Network - Change?

  • Thread starter Thread starter Seth
  • Start date Start date
In Windows XP you should be able to do it by following these steps:

Click "Start"
Right-click "My Computer"
Click "Properties"
Click on the "Computer Name" tab
Click on "Change ..."
Type in a new name for the computer
Click "OK"

If you are prompted for credentials at this point, then the computer is
joined to a domain and you need the username and password of an account with
permissions to rename the computer within the domain. If this is the case,
you may need to contact your network admin to supply the credentials, or to
rename the computer for you.
