The day before yesterday i got an error while playing a game. I am sorry i do
not remember the the message but it showed only for a few seconds. But what i
can remeber is this. The screen was blue with white lettering and it said
that windows had encountered a problem and that it had to shut down it
mentioned something about if the problem continues i should disable any new
soft/hardware and something about disabling bios memory cache. Then at the
bottom of the screen was something about memory dump and just a bunch of
hex's. after that my computer shut down and rebooted. Now when i turn on the
computer i get the toshiba logo then the screen with the starting windows in
safe or normal modes come up. when ever i chose an option the computer
reboots and that screen comes up again. No matter what option i chose it just
roboots and ends up at that screen.
My main questions are is there a way to get the computer to boot up. I was
able to boot from my restore disc but that would meen i would lose all of my
data. second is if i cannot reboot would restoreing the computer do any good
or is this a hardware problem.

Without more information it's hard to diagnose this problem and give you a
cure for it. Long before you should even consider reformatting the operating
system you should see if you can get into the OS via safe mode. When you
start the computer there should be a Toshiba logo that appears. Shortly
after that there's a screen that normally loads, it's the OS boot screen
that's loaded so that you don't have to look at either a blanks screen or
text that you probably don't care about. Before this second screen appears
start pressing on the F8 key (make sure that you don't have the Fn Key
pressed or locked in the ON position or this won't work) and you should get
a new menu. From there you have a number of options. I'd first try to get
into the OS by selecting the safe mode without networking option. If that
works I'd reboot and see if the glitch somehow fixed itself. If it didn't
then you can do two more things. The first is to go back to the special menu
with the F8 key and try last known good configuration. If that works you're
good to go. If it doesn't then you'll want to go back to safe mode (without
networking) and you'll want to try to restore to a point before this error
started. Without knowing the details of the error it's not easy to tell you
what specifically went wrong and what you need to do to fix it so hopefully
these will get you through.

i might not have mentioned it but i have tryed the following options:
Safe mode
Safe mode with networking
Safe mode with Command Prompt

Start windows from the last good configuration
Sart windows normaly

and like i said the screen goes black and returns to the toshiba logo and
the screen with Safe mode and normal modes comes up and no matter what choice
i chose it just returns to the Toshiba logo and then it is back to this
screen over and over and over. I can get it to start from a boot disk but
when i try changin the drive to c: (my hard drive) it says invalid drive
specification.

Out of morbid curiousity what game was this? Anyhow you're looking at a
repair installation (I hope) at this point unless someone else has a great
idea for you. Here's a great walk-through on the process:

Well for your morbid curiousity it was Aliens Vs. Predators 2. i also have
one more thing to say. My computer did not come with a Windows XP disk only a
restore disk which means i lose all of my data. Is there a nother way? i am
really getting desprate.
