Computer is crashing. Help!

I have been trying to troubleshoot why I keep getting a blue screen of death
on my Dell Inspiron E1505. The event viewer shows the following warning
multiple times over the last two weeks "An error was detected on the device
\Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation" and the following error
message "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D".

What do I do??!! I e-mailed Dell help (computer is still under warranty)
and I'm waiting for an answer. Any chance this is a Windows XP/ virus
problem? I'm running the Windows Live Onecare system scanner overnight today.

Sounds like hardware. Call them, don't wait. Get anything important off
the disk.

Agree with Enkidu. Back up all your needed data (pics, music, letters,
etc.) to CDs, a USB drive, etc., and then let Dell support deal with it as
there does appear to be a hard drive issue. Whenever a hard drive is
suspect, it is essential to get your needed data saved before
troubleshooting begins. Dell will probably have you run check disk and
their diagnostic software to see where that leads.

Both of these explicitly indicate hardware problems. And that is why you
have a warranty.

Back up your data.

Find their support phone number, take the service tag number off the back or
bottom of the system, and phone them. Don't wait for email.

This will almost certainly get a warranty replacement drive or system.

No, it's clearly hardware, as the messages specify.

This won't address failing hardware.

What you should do is back up the data from your drive now, as any "service"
of the drive will almost certainly involve it being wiped. You may need
to remove the drive and attach it to another system to do this.
