Computer Hanging

I have got a Windows XP 2.4 AMD Athlon Computer, my
computer hangs at startup and after scandisk. How an I
resolve this problem?

At which point and for how long?
There could be nay number of reasons for this:
a) Looking for a DHCP server for IP address for network card
b) Driver that takes ages to start
c) Loads of programs loading when Desktop appears
etc
etc
