computer freezing

Hi,
I'm running my AMD, 256Mbs of RAM on XP, once i tried to install sp2 my
computer froze and completely crashed.
Ever since, I have restored the default settings but it keeps freezing up
for no apprent reason. I checked the Event Viewer and an error message seems
to be created about the time the computer freezes. It goes like so:

AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address
(0x71), which lies in the 0x70 - 0x71 protected address range. This could
lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical
assistance.

However i have no idea what that means!
pls help

Hello, Deyan.
In many case, the errors of IO port comes from sound card and modem driver.
So you need to check it.

Another thing, Compaq and HP announced before recall of memory installed
their machines, which had circuit defects.
