Hi,

my computer freezes up after its been on for a few hours... and the only
option i have is to reboot.. So after i reboot my pc will not turn on, all i
receive a long beep coming from tower and nothing showing on display.. What
does this mean?

Hi "Princess" sounds like a heat problem. When a PC gets to hot it will
shutdown to prevent damage to hardware components. The best way forward is to
ensure the inlets to your PC are not obstructed aswell as the exit ports. If
you can open your case it is worth blowing through the fans to rid them of
dust. you can download a free fan tool called speed fan from
http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php which will give you the information
about the speed of your fans and the current temperatures of your pc.
Download the program and post the results on here and we will go from there

Thanks for the advice on speedfan. Will try on my 1.4ghz
athlonXP box, as it does have reboot on startup problems
(sometimes with a blank screen and both drive lights on).
Hopefully now I'll be able to isolate my problems.

Joe,
just read your thread about heat problems causing a pc to freeze. I have a
Packard Bell running XP I brought over from overseas that is incurring the
same problems : it will at any given time totally freeze without any warning.
I assume it's the power supply the guys at "Geek Squad" put in because of
the needed change in voltage from Europe to US. The guy did say he was
opting to put in a larger p.supply than would be "normal". Do you think it's
the basis of my problem?
Thanks
