Computer freezes with wireless

Hi all, can anyone please help me resolve this. I have cable broadband and a
wireless router connected direct to the main computer (the wireless is for my
sons laptop). When I start up my computer with the wireless connected the
computer freezes at the welcome screen. If I restart with the router
disconnected, the PC starts OK. If I then plug in the router the internet is
working. Any advice would be grateful

How is this set up?

1) cable broadband ---> router ----> Your PC ----> Wireless adapter ----->
son's laptop

OR

2) cable broadband ---> wireless router ----> Your PC
\ -----------> son's
laptop

Depending on which set up you are using, you still need to make sure that you
are running the latest drivers for all your PCs hardware, including the
motherboard chipset drivers and USB filter drivers. This is the same for your
son's laptop also.

Hi Yves, the set up is

cable--router ---main PC
!
wireless adaptor------sons laptop

All my drivers are up to date and device manager shows all OK
The laptop has been reformatted and all drivers reloaded by a local computer
store
The router is connected to my PC direct. My sons has the wireless adaptor.
The router and adaptor are Phillips and i'm running XP. The laptop has
windows 98.
If I short out the router ie: go direct from cable modem to my PC everything
is OK on my PC (no freeze ups)
