I'll try again.
Someone has to know this.

Need help on this one. Just reformatted my computer. A lot to install again.
But my computer freezes when I insert a CD. It doesn't matter wich drive.
It dosn't freeze all the time but a lot. I've narrowed it down to (maybe)
InCD that comes with Nero. If I have a CD in the drive while booting it
frezzes too.
No overclocking, latest bios firmware and drivers on everything. No hardware
conflicts. No errors in any logs. Exept this everything works fine.
I've only installed a few bought games and applications.

Any help appreciated.

Tönne,

Is the cable from the CD-ROM to the motherboard or other device correctly
connected and is it secure to both the CD-ROM and the motherboard or other
device? This sounds like a hardware issue.

Yes I've checked the cables. And changed them to new ones to be shure it's
not the cables.
I've disabled everything in BIOS that's not used. Moved my Sounblaster
audigy card to another slot.
Forgot to mention that my motherboard is a Asus P4C800 Deluxe. I've ordered
a Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
so I can run raid 0 on Intel instead of Promise. But I really want to know
what it is. I've built maybe 40
computers and I've never had a problem that I didn't manage to sort out.
This isn't good for my ego ;)

I have similarly been suffering through the same problem. I started from scratch with a clean install and everything was working fine until I install either Roxio media creator 7 or Norton AV 2004 Professional. Once either are installed, if I open a drive and install a cdrom it will lock the system provided the cdrom as previously been used since the last reboot. I have a liteon CDRW 32x drive and a new liteon 8X DVD+/- RW. I went and tried a series of different drive combinations with other drives I have. I found that the system is stable when not using the liteons. Interesting I was not having problems until I started updating to newer version of software.
