Computer freezes, unless . . .

.. . . unless we dialup to internet right after startup.
From then on everything works fine, even if we disconnect
from internet. If we don't dialup to internet first right
after startup, the computer will always lockup within a
few minutes. Any ideas?

there may be something in your run key in the registry or in your startup
folders that is connecting to the internet.

The time lag could be indicative of something trying to connect via DNS,
which has a pretty high timeout.
