Computer freezes frequently

Every 1 to 3 minutes the computer freezes for 3 to 5 seconds. The mouse doesn't move and nothing on the monitor moves. It may be just the monitor because when I am typing in the freeze the words come out after the freeze. This is very annoying and nned to fix it.

Shut down background programs till you find the cause.
