Computer Freezes after short period of inactivity

I have a P4, 1.5 GB Rdram and am running a dual boot system. I have MS Vista
Business and MS Xp Pro installed. I do keep them up to date with critical
updates. I have had not problems until an update session about two weeks
ago. After updating, I re-booted my computer and walked away for about an
hour. Upon return, all was frozen up. There was no response from keyboard
or mouse. The On/Off button acted more as a re-set button when I touched it
and it restarted immediately. As long as I am using the computer, everything
is fine, but if I stop using it for any short length of time, it freezes,
requiring a re-boot. Restore points did nothing to correct the problem.
Using Vista, this problem does not occur. I have run Ad Aware and SpyBot, as
well as registry cleaners, still not joy. Any suggestions from any of you
more knowledgeable users? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Too soon to be using Vista. Wait until Vista 2 is out.

Thank you. I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I suppose I do
not know how to use the Event Viewer. I could never find anything to
indicate what was causing the problem. However, I did a lot of reading(and
maybe learning) and finally decided that all of my problems began when I went
to the Microsoft Update page and installed some non-critical, but recommended
updates. I also ran Touchstone's "Driver Agent" and downloaded and installed
some new drivers. Those driver's involved were my graphic's driver and Hp
printer. I uninstalled all of my previous changes, cleaned the Registry and
re-installed drivers directly from the vendor sites and all is well again.
Thank you for your time and suggestions, as it was truly appreciated.

Hi Plato. Thank you for your response. As stated, I am using a dual boot
system(Xp and Vista Business). They share a 250GB hard drive. I did this
immediately after the initial release of Vista. I did an upgrade and,
surprise of all surprises, totally "screwed up" up my computer. I lost a lot
of info and could not recover it. For the first time in my experience, the
upgrade did not go smoothly and it took me many hours to get it installed.
My biggest complaint was the lack of drivers for some of my equiment. Also,
am not certain I can get full advantage of the program with this system.
Having said that, I do use Vista more and more as of late and all of my
peripherals work properly. Most of my program remain on Xp, so I use it most
of the time. Thanks for your input and time. It is greatly appreciated.
