Does the problem occur only in MS Word? Since you most recently installed
NIS, try disabling the integration with MS Office. Since I don't run Norton
products, I can't tell you exactly where it is but it will be somewhere in
the NIS options. If that solves the issue, great. If that doesn't solve the
issue and the problem is only with MS Word, post your question (with more
details about your computer) in the Word newsgroup. Here is a list of all
the MS newsgroups so you can find the right Word one and also a link which
will help you with what details to include in your next post.

there are more error messages but not sure if any of these are important. I
just dont know how to fix these problems .

ALSO My mouse freezes sometimes and always has. the computer just stops
recognising it but the keys still work. if i want to use the nmouse again i
usually have to turn the computer off and on, but occasionally it will work
again by switching usb ports. is there a problem with my hardware.
please answer in laymans terms as my knowledge is basic but with
instructions i can carry out tests etc, Thankyou for any info you can toss my
way x x x

You are probably having hardware problems. Here are general hardware
troubleshooting steps:

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts with
known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA). Have all
your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.
