Hello;
I am using a Gateway PC with XP Pro.
I am a professional photographer that uses Phase One Capture One Pro 3.7.6
for RAW file conversion. The software has a 30 day trial if you don't
purchase the program. I have purchased the program and have been using it
for 4 years.
The software is designed to revert back to the expired 30 day trial if it
thinks the computer processor has been changed or the hard drive serial
number changes. This activation scheme is suppose to prevent multiple
installs on different machines.
Everything was running perfectly until November 2006 when I replaced the
internal Maxtor 160Gb C drive with a larger Maxtor 300Gb drive. After
replacing the drive Capture One Pro started reverting back to the expired
trial. This happens about every 3 times I start the program. Phase One tech
support tells me that either the processor or hard drive has changed - which
they have not.
Can anyone tell me if XP Pro can report a processor change or a hard drive
change (new processor or hard drive) to a software program when the
processor and hard drive did not change and possibly what to troubleshoot
next?
Phase One tech support also told me that sometime poorly written drivers can
make the software think the "computer fingerprint" has changed. The software
worked fine before changing the hard drive. I reinstalled the Gateway
drivers when I reinstalled XP.
Thanks. Have a great week!
