Computer doesn't work after updating

Hi All,

My colleague has a following problem:

She has the WinXP Home SP2. The system announced that it was ready
to update. She agreed and the system was updated including updating
IE6 to IE7 without any further questions. After updating she agreed
to restart the system.
The Windows started but instead of the normal logging screen,
a black screen appeared with a small window with the user's name
displayed and asking for password. She had no password so she simply
pressed Enter.
Then the screen of proper (her) colour appeared (without icons), the
openning sound was heard and the following information was displayed:

Application Error
Explorer.exe
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002).
Click OK to finish the application.

After clicking OK nothing happened.

She is not able to use the computer anymore. She is even
not able to start the system.

Please help us.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Before I got your news we tried to use Select Last Known
Good Configuration in the Safe Mode but the same error
was displayed.

Today we tried the System Restore Tool from Command
Prompt in the Safe Mode, exactly as it was described
in the link. Her problem occured yesterday so we chose
28th of November to restore the system. The restoring
process ran without any problems but after rebooting
we got the same error. :-(

I thought about repairing the system using an install CD
but unfortunately her install CD contains WinXP Home
with SP1 whereas her system was updated to SP2
a few years ago. So we'd have to make an install disk
with SP2 first. Do you think that there is any chance
that such repairing could help?

Yes, probably the easiest way to get that done is buying an XP SP2 disk from
MS

REPLACEMENT MS CDs - 800-360-7561 (under $10)

She'll try to buy (replace) a XP SP2 disk from MS
or I'll do it on my own from her XP SP1 install disk.
