I have a IBM ThinkPad R40 running Windows XP with Service Pack 2. I
am having problems with the CD/DVD drive (LG GCC-4240N-IMCO A1).
Here is what happened. I was trying to watch a movie and the movie/
computer crashed (computer no longer responded to commands). I
powered down the computer. Ever since then the CD/DVD drive has not
worked. By not work, I mean that it is not present in "My Computer".
I first tried to re-install the drivers but this did not change the
situation. Upon rebooting the computer I went to the Bios screen and
I noticed that the computer no longer recognized the presence of the
drive. I know the drive itself is okay because it works when I put
the drive into an identical IBM ThinkPad R40. (Conversely, when I put
the CD/ROM drive from the indentical IBM ThinkPad R40 into my computer
it does not work).
So I searched online to try to find a way to fix the situation but all
I could come up with is to run a firmware update but was not sure if
this is my only option.
Any suggestions?
