Computer does not always respond to Hibernate in Windows XP

I used to switch off my PC every night but have recently
enabled the Hibernate facility, but after the "Windows is
preparing to Hibernate" screen comes up nothing further
happens and I have to press "Restart" and re boot before
it will successfully Hibernate. Can anyone help as this
seems to defeat the object of powersaving.
