Computer Configuration Needed for 10 Computers

Hi, Usually, when I build a computer I do it for myself. I also
maintain machines at work, etc.

However, I am in a venture where I have to put together 10 machines for
a class. I am the teacher. It is a basic computer class and another
one is a more advanced programming class.

My personal favorite is newegg.com, but it has been a little bit since
I've bought a computer, much less, ten at once.

I was hoping you would help me put together a machine or have ideas so
I could save money.

Maintaining, configuring, etc. them is not a problem. I can do all
that, so I don't have that cost (other than time and parts).

I would think that since I won't be doing anything super intensive, no
3D games or anything, that I could do well with lower to medium end
machines.

Any ideas are appreciated. I have to keep costs down to make money on
the student's tuition. In truth I don't expect to do anything but
break even the first year.

Best to figure out what you'll need in the machines then find vendors
for your order. Dell has educational/small business packages and
discounts plus it's a single point of contact for sales, shipping, support
and warranty. Reputable local merchants could fill your order saving
shipping costs. Online retailers are good but you might have to go to the
manufacturer for warranty.

I hoping for $3,000, but I think it will be at least $4,000. I saw
that Dell had $399 computers and it is awfully hard for me to beat that
when I have to pay so much for the OS and the monitor.

Well Dell is just one vendor and I think their PCs have XP but you could
call or surf them and check for clearance deals. These are older
models maybe refurbished but only take those that will be under warranty
and support. Compaq is another that might have some PCs on clearance
sale. Micro$oft might have a educational 10 license deal if you find PCs
without an OS.

Seriously, $4000 for 10 PCs plus monitors and XP is reasonable for low-end
pcs.
