I have a new e-Machine computer with XP Home Edition ...
Seems like it wants to click a lot , my last computer and the one at work is
quiet as a church mouse....
Any problems with this ????
THANKS !!!!!

Need more info, if we're gonna help you!

Where is the clicking coming from - speakers, system unit, keyboard,
mousepad?

Do the clicks occur when you do something, or just randomly? Is there a
pattern to them?

Do they sound like crickets, locusts, or a door locking?

Val

maybe, maybe not.

it might be a subconscientious twitching by one of your fingers resting
on a keyboard key.....

maybe you might be chewing some gum and the clickings are
your dental fillings....

It sounds like the hard drive is always trying to download something...(or
most of the time)....
mostly when i am going from program to program and just sitting there for a
while and doing nothing on the P.C. it will randomly make that clickety
noise in the P.C........
Right now it is constantly ticking like a clock....very low , but
ticking....
APPRECIATE ANY SUGGESTIONS....
THANKS !!!!!!!

OK, you seem to have diagnosed it - noisy hard drive.

Whether that's indicative of a problem or not depends on the model - some
are just noisier than others.

If you could post the exact model number, perhaps someone with experience
with that one can advise on the situation.

Device Manager should give make and model.

A noisy hard drive could just mean it's not mounted properly. Open up
the case and check it out when it's making the noise. You should be
able to tell if it's buzzing around inside the case.

There are diagnostic utilities. You can Run... CHKDSK.EXE /f. You can
download other utilities off the net once you determine what model hard
drive it is.

On the off-chance that the noise might indicate imminent failure, I
would *strongly* recommend that you do frequent backups until the
problem is diagnosed.
