Computer can't StandBy

When I used to have Windows 98 SE in my computer, I was
able to put the computer in StandBy without any problems.
After I upgraded to Windows XP Professional, I haven't
been able to put my computer in StandBy. When I go to
shut down in the 'Start' menu, all I see are
the 'Hibernate', 'Shut Down', and 'Restart' buttons. When
I hold down the 'Shift' key in that menu, I can see the
standby option, but it is shaded dark and I can't use it.
What happened to 'StandBy'? Can anyone help me?

Check for ACPI installed correctly, so open the device
manager and click that top one (computer) and it should
be listed there. Also some ACPI or APM is listed under
system devices as well. You may need a update for your
motherboard to fix this.
