Computer cant be seen in rest of network + explore network questio

Hello everybody!

I just took the jump from w2k and started using XP. I have a small homework
with 3 XP Pro machines, and one running w2k server - computers A, B, C and D.
My problem is:

While the computer called "D" may see every other computer (ABC) in the
network, none of the others (ABC) can see "D". Odd enough I havent had any
similar problem with the other "XP-Installs" but this computer, for some
reason, cant be found. As far as I can see everything is in order - the nic,
network name etc etc. Anyone got any good ideas?

Then my second, probably much simpler, question. On w2k I could always click
"my network places", see my network name and then click to browse it. In XP
however, I get to see the network history but cant browse the whole network -
to do that, I have to rightlick "explore" and open a new explorer window.
Does anyone know how I could change this?

I thank you in advance,

Phil

There is an option to "hide" a PC inside the network, in particular it wont
answer to another PCs discovery attempt.
You said its WinXP Pro, so try Start/Run and execute "gpedit.msc". You may
be overwhelmed by the possibilities in there, and u may be disappointed as it
offers only a limited subset of configuration options. Either way, check all
branches for a setting like "Hide this Computer in Network", and set the
values accordingly.
If there's no such setting inside, you can try Control
Panel/Management/Local Security Policies. Offers another subset of
system-properties that may include that.
If all that fails, try TweakUI, I *think* it allowes to set that value too.

Greetings, BhaaL

I cant get this to work - situation is just getting worse:(
I have tried to edit stuff in gpedit.msc + XP Power toys, but nothing seems
to work.
Right now I can transfer files at all between my comps. Only in one case I
can browse a (one) box in the network - by direct writing //server//c_blabla/
in the address field. Anyone know what I can do? Thx
