Complicated Networking setup problems w/vpn (For Techies)

Please help!

Successfully have connected VPN. I can ping each location and have used
PC-Anywhere to see desktops of remote computers, GREAT RIGHT.... NO

The problem.
------------

I inherited this project with the understanding the VPN was to connect
through the offices DSL internet connection and the already connected
linksys VPN router.

However, I have since learned the desired machine of access and only this
machine (just my luck) is connected to a previously setup T1 connection
which provides access to another remote site. The issue is that in order to
have access to the remote site, the PC requires the gateway IP set to the
T1.

When the gateway-IP is set to the T1 I (obviously?) I cannot ping the PC via
the linksys VPN connection and cannot connect any software. If I change the
gateway-IP to the linksys VPN router I can ping the machine, access via
PC-Anywhere software ***BUT*** I loose the connection to the T1 and
thereofore loose half the purpose of setting the remote connection up
altogether, the machine has lost its connection to the remote site and 1 of
the accounting packages no longer functions.

I tried briefly plugging in a USB NIC card (multi-home) and gave it the
opposing gateway IP but still couldn't ping over the VPN (I could ping
everything fine in the office). I tried adding a 2nd gateway IP under
advanced option in the TCP/IP properties (W2K) no luck.

HELP ME I'M MELTING!!!

Start by simplifying and telling us either exactly what doesn't
work -- then give the detail separately -- or by telling us
what you wish to accomplish....

Your message may get help but I got lost trying to parse it...

All IP is simple -- they just might be a LOT of it. <grin>

Sounds like you may want to add a static entry to the routing table on the computer
connected to the T1 line. When you have a default gateway configured, all non local
network traffic goes to the default gateway [lan router port]. However you can add a
static route [route add with the -p persistent switch] to the routing table that
could send all traffic to the network address for the site to the T1 gateway. The
route table will use a specfic route if available. Use route print to view the

internet connections. This PC access some network files locally, and some
files remotely via a T1 connection.

The office also has a DSL connection with a linksys VPN router. The project
was handed to me like this, here is whats wanted and here is the VPN router
to do the job.

The problem is the Host PC gateway IP address needs (Somehow) to have both
the T1 gateway IP to connect to the remote files and the (VPN router)
gateway IP to have connection through the VPN at the same time. I have
tried adding a 2nd NIC, no luck. I have tried adding a 2nd gateway in the
advance TCP/IP properties it didn't work.

What I need is simultanious access into the computer via the VPN router and
T1, so the VPN PC-Anywhere user can have 100% access to all data.

Read the above paragraph (as if you don't already know what
you mean) or have a friend read it and try to guess what you
are trying to do.

You can have one machine connected to the ENTIRE INTERNET,
or connected directly to 20 routers. You seem to be confusing
connection with something else.

Either routing or perhaps name resolution.

Are you having trouble ROUTING (tracert etc.) elsewhere when you are
connected to the VPN?

Are you having trouble resolving DNS or NetBIOS names when so
connected?

What exact PROBLEM are you experiencing. How is this different
from when the VPN is/is-not connected?

How does it vary by IP verses DNS name?

How does it vary for "other protocols", e.g., HTTP vs. PCAnywhere?

What I need is simultanious access into the computer via the VPN router and
T1, so the VPN PC-Anywhere user can have 100% access to all data.
