hi all,

i have dilemma and i hope there's a work around it.
i have 2 hard drives one of them has an XP install and the other has the
vista install, they're completely separate and i get to chose which to boot
everytime, now i'm getting a new PC and i want to use the new completePc
backup and restore feature in vista.

the problem is whenever i try to do that vista always Grey's out BOTH
partitions concidering them system drives.
I don't want my xp install i just need to backup my vista to be able to
restore it to the new pc.

is there any work around that? i hope so

thanks in advance :)

Frankly, what you want to do is not a recommended practice. You should not
use complete backup to restore your system to a new system unless it is 100%
identical to the system you're backing up.

So no, no work around; if there was it would be unwise anyway. :)

I have used Acronis TrueImage Workstation, and Server versions, with the
Universal Restore addon, to move operating systems between comepletely
different hardware, with perfect success. I also use it regularly to make
old OS installations into VirtualPC virtual machines, so that I can still
access settings that I forget to migrate.

However, I have problems with the latest builds, which are the ones that
work with Vista. Build #3887 was released back in February, and I am still
waiting for an update. However, it looks like the problems I have been
having with it are rare.
