completely remove office & all traces of the application

Not sure if this is the right newsgroup, but I need to completely remove all
traces of microsoft office (then reinstall) I believe I stepped all over the
installer (windows 3.1) and maybe? could reinstall the installer?

Usually if you reinstall you can then uninstall via Add\Remove and reinstall
again

There is an installer clean-up utility that might help with this, see here:

There are also different Office removal tools and utilities depending on
the Office version that you have installed on the pc. There are many
"gotchas" and vagaries with Office products so you might want to ask
about this on the Office groups were the pros can give you better
answers and advice. Make sure you tell them which Office version you
want help with. Try:
