Compare XP editions

I'm planning on going to grad school and was recommended to get XP Pro. I got a computer that said it had XP Pro, but found that it's actually XP Media Center Edition. In looking at the MS website, I only see comparisons to Pro and Home versions. Does anyone know if Media Center Edition is just an extension of Pro? Am I missing any capabilities of Pro in my version?

WinXP Media Center Edition is a _superset_ (iow, it does
_everything_ WinXP Pro can do, plus contains additional features) of
WinXP Pro.
