Terminate Windows XP setup option

Guest

I got a refurbished PC. I bought it with the Windows XP Media Center OS. And
it did. The problem is, everytime I boot, before I go to the Windows XP media
center, it will prompt me to choose between (1) Windows XP Media Center; (2)
Windows XP PRO setup installation.

My guess is, somebody tried to install XP PRO but did not continue to do so.

Now, is there a way for me to get that options out and direct me straight to
Windows XP Media Center whenever I boot?

Start | Run | Type: msconfig | OK |
Boot.ini tab | Check All Boot Paths button |
A dialog box will open detailing the location of any invalid operating
system locations | Confirm you want to remove the entry and reboot

[[Check All Boot Paths - This button will check the boot paths for all
operating systems listed in the BOOT.INI to ensure they point to a valid
operating system. ]]

If there is only one you will get:
It appears that all BOOT.INI lines for Microsoft operating systems are OK.

Hi,

Click start/run, type C:\boot.ini and click ok. Remove the line from the
[operating systems] that has the setup option. Close saving changes.

Thank you very much for all the information. It worked.

But last question, doing this will not waste any space in my harddrive, what
so ever?

Hi,

No, what wastes space is files that are stored but never used.

Control Panel - System - Advanced, in Startup and Error, click Settings,
then Edit and it will load the boot.ini file into Notepad for editing;
delete the line referring to Pro setup
