COMP. KEEPS REBOOTING!

R

Robert E. Willis

Hi all....Got a weird problem!......my PC keeps re-booting by itself, (hard
re-boot), as if the RESET button were pushed!
This started on 6/16/05, after Microsoft's last update.
I have a Dell Dimension 4100 w/512 Megs of Ram running XP Pro......I'm ready
to do a system restore (in safe mode) and see if that fixes it......any
ideas?
Thanks,

Bob

Did you try uninstalling the update in Add/Remove Programs control panel?

Right click My Computer and select Properties | Advanced and click Settings
in the Startup and Recovery section at the bottom. Uncheck Automatically
restart. Now instead of restarting you will see the blue screed. Tell us
what error it gives.

Hi Frank,

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner, I have Multiple Sclerosis ,and am
bed-bound.
I was able to get over to it and try booting it again, did what you said,
and wrote the error down from the Blue screen, which said "Your Computer was
halted from booting, and shut down to prevent damage, ect, ect. Error in
HCWBF8XX.SYS at memory address:F80611DD BASE AT F80SC000 DATESTAMP
3C7F133L. I wonder if it could be caused by an older PCI VIDEO Camera w/card
NOT Supported by XP?
I could try disabling it in device manager, starting in safe mode, or is it
worse!

Thanks,

Bob
