Common Tasks missing?

S

seth4h

In all my folders, my "Common Tasks" toolbar has gone missing.... I
have been searching for a resolution to this problem.

1. I have tried the "Tools>Folder Options>Show Common Tasks in
Folders",

2. I have tried the .reg file from a support website supposed to bring
the common tasks back,

3. and I have tried editing the registry, and the group policies and
Administrative Template policies.

None of the above has brought back the "Common Tasks" toolbar to my
folders...

Any other ideas out there? Please help.

Is the Folders toolbar button showing depressed down?
If so, click on it to de-select it.

When you right click a folder, what is the top item on the menu?

Explore or Open?

If Explore is default it will be the top item and in BOLD letters.

If Explore is default, double clicking folders will open them in Folders
view.

Open and Explore are different.
Explore opens folders with Folders pane on the left.
Open opens folders with common tasks showing on the left.

You can still toggle from Folders view to the Tasks pane by clicking on the
Folder button on the Toolbar.

If Explore is the default, change it to Open.

Start | Run | Type: control folders | Click OK |
File Types tab | Scroll down to and Select: (NONE) Folder |
Advanced button | Highlight: open | Set Default | Click OK |
Click Apply | Click OK

Set Default
[[Sets the selected command as the command to be carried out when the file
is invoked.
The default command for the file is shown in bold on the shortcut menu for
the file.]]

Is Show Common tasks in folders grayed out in Folder Properties?

"Single-click to open an item" in the Folder Options is grayed out
The option Show Common tasks in folders will also grayed out.

Finally I seem to be on to something... While common tasks has not yet
returned, when looking into the file types I have both a '[None]
Folder' and a '[None] File Folder'.

When I choose '[None] Folder' and change the default to "Open", nothing
changes. In the '[None] File Folder' the only options are "Enqueue in
Winamp" , "Open in Winamp" , and "Find" options. So I chose the "find"
option and now all my folders open a Search instead of "Open". So how
can I add "Open" to '[None] File Folder'? or change my folders to be
'[None] Folder'?

Thanks for all your help so far!

This occurs when you use the File Types dialog to edit Drives or

edit those two types.

regsvr32 /i shell32 should get rid of Search opening.

(NONE) File Folder should have:
Find

The other crap was added by winamp. And Open does not belong there.

Okay, everything is right but its more screwed up.

[NONE] Folder has explore, and Open with Open in Bold.

[NONE] File Folder has the Winamp options, and Find.

Now, whenever I open a folder (e.g. My Documents) and then click on
another folder, it just opens the search screen. Everytime, on every
folder. And the Common Tasks has yet to return.

What now?

Thanks for your continued help.

Paste the following line into Start | Run and click OK...

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

How does My computer open?

Try this one...

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

In case either one wraps, there is ONE space in both commands.
Between exe AND ::{

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
My Computer should open with Folders view.

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
My Computer should open with Tasks view.

Both of these should open My Computer should open with Tasks view.

file:///::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
