Changing from Windows "Classic" Folders

Somehow in my folder options I have changed and now have Windows Classic
style folders. I want to change back to Common Tasks. I have attempted to
change by going thru Control Panel to Folder options and "Settings" in the
system properties.
For whatever reason, the computer is not allowing me to change, or will
"override" the change. Suggestions to get back to Common Tasks ????

Go to controll panel, system, the 'Advanced' Tab,and under performance,
settings.
then, Scroll down and look for the option "Use common tasks in folders"
and select it. That should get things sorted out :)

When I go there, the "Use common tasks in folders" is already checked. Then I
go to My Documents "Tools" "Folder Options" It also will not allow me to
change from "Windows Classic" to "Use common tasks in folders".

Try changing back to Windows XP theme by right-clicking on Desktop - Choose
Properties - from the Theme tab - choose Windows XP. Now, open any folder and
see Common Tasks are there. If they are then go back to Theme and change back
to Windows Classic Theme (if you want Classic Look).

If that doesn't work and you don't want to change the Theme then right click
on My Computer - choose Properties - under Advanced tab - click Settings
under Performance. Here look for "Show common task in folder" and checkmark
if unchecked.

Let us know!

You did so well...how about this...My daughters computer loads and then
displays just the wallpaper...no task bar...no icons...she does get "yahoo"
so the IE must be working. Any ideas about how to get task bar and icons ???
My daughter is going crazy.

You have to check everything step by step. If one fails then try another.

1. Are you using Task Manager to run IE? If so, then do the same thing to
run EXPLORER.EXE.
2. Do you have the choice to Enter the name and password of user, who want
to login in. If yes then at Welcome Screen press CTRL+ALT+DEL key 2 times.
This will bring up a box to enter a name and password. Type Administrator in
user name and password of the administrator. See, if you can successfully
login in admin account. if you can then create a new setting with
administrative rights and try to log in it.
2. Try to boot up your PC in Safe Mode. Turn On your PC and when "Starting
Windows" displayed press F8 to bring up the Boot menu. Choose Safe Mode. See
if Windows let you properly boot in. Create a new user account with
administrative rights. Restart your window and login with new ID.

Let us know, if any of above helps you. Furthermore, you should post this
problem seperately as another users on the same group can help you.

One more thing I would like to tell you is that you should search for the
same problem in the News Groups. I have made a search in the newsgroup and
found a topic on the same problem "missing desktop". This was on Windows XP
Accessibilty group. You should check it out for more information on the same
problem.

and of-course YOU ARE ALL-WAYS WELCOME.
