"common tasks" column screwed up

Guest

My documents and My pictures should show common tasks in a column to the
left of the window. Somehow--I don't know how--both of those folders think
they contain music, and the list of common tasks is suitable for playing wav
and mp3 files--not pictures. Common tasks for pictures have things like
"slide show" not "play all."

I can't find a way to change the common tasks to one suitable for photos.
How does one do this?

Thanks,

Norm

Hi Norm,
Right click your 'My Pictures' folder in explorer and select properties. On
the customize tab under 'Use this folder type as a template' select 'Photo
Album' or 'Pictures'.
Repeat the same for 'My Documents' only this time select 'Documents' from
the drop down list.

Hope this Helps,

Simon.

Hi Norm / Simon,

The "Customize" tab would not be available for special folders like "My
Pictures", "My Documents" etc. To fix the problem, the Norm can try the
following:

[Option 1]
Resetting the folder settings:

Click Start, Run and type C:\
Click Tools, Folder Options
In the View tab, click "Reset all folders"
Click OK.
Close the folder

[Option 2]
See: "Common Tasks Don't Match Folder Type"
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_common_tasks.htm

[Option 3]
You can use Keith Miller's script to fix the problem. Download
"TaskPaneFix.zip" from here:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.customize/msg/d7dd4582cc4b2e99
Note: Close all folder windows before running this script.

Hi Norm,
Sorry to mislead you, Ramesh is correct, special folders such as My
Pictures/Documents don't have a customize tab. However my sugestion will
still work for any sub folders within these special folders.

Hope this Helps,

Simon.
