Command Prompt Size issues (very unusual)

Hello,

No, this is not your typical, "My command prompt is the wrong size"
post. I've searched the usenet groups and found little help. Picture
this, if you will... You're in Windows XP and you open a command
prompt. It opens up as a typical window of whatever you set your
defaults to. (Let's just say 80x40) Now, you press ALT+Enter to go
into Full-screen mode and the desktop goes all black, except that in
the very center of the monitor is a command prompt window (without the
border). To explain another way, the window that you were looking at
centered itself in the monitor, and did not change sizes at all.
Plus, the windows border that surrounds every window is now gone and
the rest of the screen is unusable black space.

The Command prompt should have enlarged to fill up the entire
screen, but it only finished half the job. The black background
filled up the entire screen, but the usable space is still the same
size it was before I pressed ALT+Enter.

If anyone has any knowledge about how to fix this, I would greatly
appreciate it. I can't seem to find any information on this from
Microsoft. And I only found one other post with similar symptoms, on
thsi group from about 3 years ago, with no resolution.

Thanks,
Scott

I'm mortified that I cannot offer you a solution, but I'm extremely
grateful that you've identified the cause of a problem that I've had
twice in the previous week but never before.

Memo to self: Stop pressing Alt+Enter in command prompts.

I can't duplicate your problem. All I can suggest is open a command
prompt in a window and click the upper left corner of the window and
click on properties. Make sure your font and layout settings are set
to something usable. <alt-enter> works the way it should here. Reboot
the computer and see if the problem fixes itself. Sometimes, a reboot
is a good thing. :)

As a side note, If I change the background color to something other
than black, and press ALT+Enter to go full screen, only the portionof
the screen that is usable window real estate is the new background
color. The rest of the screen is still black.

p.s. Steve: Glad I could be of service.
