Comfort Optical Mouse 3000--a total mess

I bought the mouse largely because I wanted the Magnify feature--my
eyes aren't what they used to be. But installed on my Windows XP Pro
machine (SP2), the features don't work right at all. The magnify
feature sometimes gets stuck, so the magnifier window stays on screen
whether I want it or not. Turning the scroll wheel causes my browser
to page backward and forward, instead of scrolling me up and down the
web page. Sometimes turning the wheel causes the magnifier to appear.

Near as I can judge, this thing's got some absolutely awful driver
software going on. By the way, I'm using it through a KVM switch to
control a SUSE Linux box, and there it works just fine. Can't use the
magnifier, but all the basic stuff just works. But on my Windows box,
running Microsoft software, nothing but trouble. Any suggestions?

Have you installed the InteliPoint software and if so is it the latest version?

Just can say that we bought three of them this past month
and have had no trouble with the controls. A also installed
a free program called Dragonfier http://www.halley.cc/stuff/
which works well if all you want is a tool. It has its
problems. My wife installed it on her computer at work and
several other people also downloaded and installed it.
The drivers on the MS Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 are for
Windows and the KVM switch may be doing some translation to
the XP machine. Try the mouse with the latest IntelliPoint
software directly on your XP box, if that works correctly,
maybe you should get some firmware updates for the KVM.

Wow...there are firmware upgrades to KVMs? Who knew?

Anyway, I did install the latest software and for the moment, the
mouse seems to be working right. Just hope it continues that way.
I'll look into that firmware thing. Thanks.

Yes, but only install it if it is really necessary and read the instructions
carefully, especially on what needs to be connected/disconnected to the KVM while
performing the flash.

Anyway, I did install the latest software and for the moment, the

directions. In order to close the magnifier, I had to go into Intellimouse
(just dowloaded new version 6) software and disable the magnifier. It's a
great feature, but I can't figure out how to close it on demand.

If you are too slow in releasing the button, you get the directional arrows
that you see. Try changing the click speed in the mouse control panel.

Also, you can't be holding pressure on the L or R buttons,
that brings up the menu.

is it needs two more buttons for fwd and back. But it is
nice.
