comdlg32.dll errror when printing from various applications

V

Vanessa

Windows XP Home SP2
The computer has 2 printers ( shared ) installed on other computers.
The printers are HP LaserJet 1200 and a Canon LBP3200.

The problem occurs evertime I try to print from various applications but MS
Office.
The error message as I see in the Application Events is "Faulting
application %appname% version...., faulting module comdlg32.dll, faulting
address..."
where %appname% is the application in which I try to print something.
This happens using application such as notepad, acrobat reader, oracle
report runtime, etc.

But strange thing is this kind of error never happen while using MS Office.
Excel, Word happily prints documents to the printer fast n well.

But the problem is not 100% guaranteed to happen. If I'm lucky enough,
notepad and other applications will show the printing dialog ( even after
waiting a few more seconds ) and prints to desired printer. But the ration
can be said is 95 : 5.

Afaik, comdlg32.dll is responsible for creating dialog such as printing
dialog, save file, open file, etc. But this error never ever happen when I
try to open or save file using various applications.
This comdlg32.dll error only happens when I try to print a document ( except
using MS Office ).
I had re-registering the dll using regsrv32 but still the same result.

Any idea?

thanks
Thanks

Something else must be causing it. Can you look at your event viewer
for some possible signs of error. Contrrol Panel > Administrative
Tools > Event Viewer.

Do you by chance have any old Windows 95 era prgrams or such programs
installed? Software not specifically designed to run on WinXP?

Since it's only happening with Office, what service pack level is
office at currently? You can see this by going to Help > About. What
version of Office is this?

It's also possible your printer driver is corrupt or needs updating.
What printer is this?

Sorry for late reply.
I think I did to mark for notification on reply but somehow I don't have it
in my inbox.
Just found your answer when I searched for all my posts today :)

Well, as previously mentioned, the printers are shared printers which means
installed on different computer instead in the computer where the problem
existed.
Printers work fine on the host computers and other computers who connected
to it using usual NetBIOS protocol.

All drivers are up to date; and I'm happy to say now that reinstalling the
OS solved the problem.
Thanks for helping :)
