When I go to my computer-right click-manage-device manager the line "Ports
(COM&LPT) is missing. How do I restore this function.

What happens from within Computer Management if you click Action > Scan

Are the Parallel/Serial ports enabled in your computer's BIOS ?

Some newer motherboards do not provide legacy ports anymore.
It's possible if this is a new computer that the ports don't exist.
Recent motherboards also now support only a single PATA
connector ( For Optical drives that aren't SATA based ).
