COM+ Event System Error

For some reason today my PC will not bootup to Windows. I get as far as the
Windows XP splash screen. Then just black screen. When I booted the PC up
into safe mode and took a look at the system log I found a message that
states the following:

The COM+ event system detected a bad return code during it's internal
processing. HRESULT was 8007043C from line 44 of
D:\qxp_slp\com\com1x\src\event s\tier1\eventsystemboj.cpp

No idea what has happened...but the support people I talked to wanted to go
right to a system recovery which is the last thing I want unless no other
thing can be done..

Any help is appreciated.

At the options screen before you enter safe mode try last known good
configuration. If that doesn't work you can try to restore to an earlier
date.
