I have radeon 9600 Pro video card,
200 gig w.d. drive,
UN tech DVD/CDrom drive,
1 gig memory (dual Access)
Audigy 2 zS plat. sound card,
Asus P4P800,
21" P1110 compaq monitor.. actually a Sony Trinitron Monitor

When my resolution goes greater then 1600*1200, I can't see the full
screen.
I have to use the mouse icon to push the screen to see the other side
or the bottom.

I downloaded drivers for the monitor and new drivers off the ATI
homepage.

I know this resolution works on the monitor because the first time I
installed XP I got the resolution I wanted and now it doesn't work.

Only difference was the second time I installed the Asus P4P800
drivers first. But I don't see how that could make a difference.
Also the first time I didn't install the new drivers for the monitor
or the video card because it worked.

Any ideas.

Thanks

Chris

Anyone else have any ideas?

Is this a new thing with XP having resolution problems?

I don't want to have to install XP again to solve the problem.

I can play command and conquer fine in 1600*1200, but I would really
like to have higher resolution for the desktop.

Hi - The very first post isn't available from my news server, so I'm not
sure if the original poster included details about his monitor. Your
video card might be capable of very high resolutions but your monitor
might not. This isn't a limitation coming from the operating system.
What monitor and video card do you have?

Sorry, I just realized the op has the Radeon 9600 Pro - it's always
preferable to include details about the hardware in the body of the
post as opposed to only in the subject line, but that was my mistake.
So, the question is then: can your monitor handle the resolution you
are trying to set?

Damn, you must have good eye sight. I just switched my LCD to crt and
one of the reasons was because the native res of 1280x1024 made
reading text online sometimes difficult. I run my desktop now at
1024x768 on a 19" crt and am happy with that. I run all my games at
1024x768 too.

Sorry about not giving you the details..

200 gig SATA western digital
1 gig dual Memory
p4p800 Deluxe Motherboard
ColorPower Radeon 9600 Pro
CDrom drive..
ATX box...

When I first installed XP the video resolution worked. 15@@*2@@@.

Not sure on the exact numbers because I am not on the machine.

But when I install XP a second time it didn't. Instead, when I
changed the resolution to that level it made only part of the size of
the window. So I have to scroll to get to the bottom or the right
side of the desktop. I am only able to run the resolution at
1600*1200 after that all, I get the same with only seeing part of the
desktop. I installed the drivers on the ATI page and didn't make a
difference. I guess if worst comes to worst, I can install XP again.

Thanks

Chris

Forgot to mention that..

1600 by 1200 is the only way to go 100htz as well :)

You will get better monitor performance by lowering it to 85hz.
Max vertical refresh rate of my monitor is 160hz but I only ever use
85hz for each res for that reason. Many games can not run smoothly at
1600x1200. I have an R9800pro with 3.0ghz cpu and know that to be
true. :=)

With an AMD 64 3400, Radeon 9800 XT Ultra Pro, and 3 gigs of DDR 5000
ram everything runs fast at 1600by1200 32bit colour !!!

Also My Raptor 10,000 Rpm drive helps alittle.
